"Desktop gadgets are managed by your system administrator" popup
Personal Laptop won't let me even look at desktop Gadgets let alone install them. I am only user for the PC. Popup says "Desktop gadgets are managed by your system administrator." Since no one else uses this laptop and it is not on a network, why am I seeing this? I've installed other programs and have been allowed without a popup. Why just the gadgets, so far? I am using Window 7 Home Version on a HP Pavilion PC Can anyone please help me?

Thank you for responding, Manu. Went to the thread, tried the "fixes" but nope, not working. I'm ready to give it up and install "gadgets" from developers I've used in the past and trust.......And..............major part, most are free! So, guess microsoft's gadgets are out. But, thanks for helping. TillieTillieReads

There is a Registry entry that you can set that will disable the Windows Gadgets. There is a "Fix it" from Microsoft that will re-enable it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662. Just a warning when it comes to Gadgets... Microsoft has issued a security advisory for the Windows Sidebar (Vista) and Windows Gadgets (Windows 7): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2719662. Microsoft has closed their online gallery of Gadgets and is encouraging users that are concerned about the security of Gadgets to disable them completely. Gadgets are not required to comply with typical safe coding techniques and are not tested or validated by Microsoft since you can just download them from pretty much anywhere online. Gadgets from untrusted sources could contain malicious code.

Thank you for the help. I have decided to just leave it and not try to get the gadgets. I have other trust-worthy "gadgets" that I can get from other places. Again, thank you for your help. You can consider this thread as closed.TillieReads
